WHAT IS COPYRIGHT?
Copyright is what gives you ownership of your work that you do. This is so other people can't copy your work or take ownership of an idea you come up with. This is big for authors because this is how they make their money. Due to copyright laws work can only be copied if the owner gives permission.
WHAT IS FAIR USE:
Fair use is a defense that can be used if someone is going against the copyright laws. Fair use permits specific people to use copyright work without having to have the owner's permission. The reasons we have fair use is criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, and scholarships.
