Alexis I. Aravanis was born in Athens, Greece in 1988 and graduated from the German School of Athens. He received the Dipl.-Ing. (M.Sc. ECE) degree in electrical and computer engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Athens, in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunications engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, seconded to Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Paris, France, under a Marie Curie ESR Fellowship, in 2019.
From 2011 to 2012, he completed his master's thesis and subsequently held a Junior Research Associate position with the Interdisciplinary Center for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), Luxembourg, under the auspices of the European Space Agency ARTES 5.1 Program. From 2013 to 2014 he completed his mandatory military service in the Research and Informatics Division of the Greek Army. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as Telecom Engineer in the private sector and as a Teaching Assistant at the Mobile Radio-communications Laboratory of NTUA. During 2016 he was a Visiting Researcher at SnT. From 2016 to 2019 he held a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher (ESR) position at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain. During 2018 and 2019 he was a seconded Marie Curie ESR at CNRS, Paris, France and during 2018 at the Wireless & Optical Lab of the OTE/COSMOTE group, Athens, Greece. From 2019 to 2020 he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona, Spain. In 2020 he was the recipient of the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (IF) for the research project “Pathfinder” with CNRS, Paris, France. The project was launched in May 2021 and was concluded on April 2023.
He is currently a tenured Associate Professor at the Laboratory of Signals and Systems (L2S) of Université Paris-Saclay, CNRS and CentraleSupélec, Paris, France.
He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) and an Onassis Foundation Scholar. He serves as the Secretary of the RIS Emerging Technology Initiative of the IEEE Communications Society and as the Secretary of the RISE and REFLECTIONS Special Interest Groups of the IEEE Communications Society. He has served as the Managing Editor of IEEE Communications Letters.
