MANDURAH SQUASH CLUB - PENNANTS RULES

2022 PENNANT FEES: All pennant fees are to be paid before the start of pennants. If any player on a team has not paid their fees by this time their points will be docked each week until their fees are paid.

Start Times:

The planned start times are as follows:

  • Level 5: 5:00 pm

  • Level 4: 5:30pm

  • Level 3: 6:00 pm

  • Level 2: 6:30 pm

  • Level 1: 7:00 pm

These are estimates only – please arrange to arrive no later than 35 minutes before these start times (apart from Level 5 players, who should be ready to play at 5pm). If we have more or less Levels these will will obviously adjust accordingly.

Levels 1-3 may switch the order around by agreement between the 2 teams involved at least 24 hours prior to the event. Last minute changes to order of play should be avoided.

Refereeing & Marking:

Please make yourself available to mark or referee at least one match – the one after your own often works well, but Level 1 players please be available to help out at any stage.

We obviously also need willing volunteers for Level 5 matches.

Reserves:

If you are unavailable for a particular week – someone from your team must "play up" for you. It is up to the team as a whole to decide if everyone plays up a level, or just one player plays up a level and therefore plays twice.

If everyone play up a level, then a reserve from outside the Registered Players may be used for the lowest Level.

If for some exceptional reason, your team members are unable to "play up" then a reserve can be used from another Team.

No reserves are to be arranged from outside the Registered Players unless agreed by the organisers.

Nobody wants to make an unnecessary trip to find they have no match when they arrive – so good communication can avoid these issues.

Please feel free to utilise the Mandurah Squash Club Members Facebook Page to assist,

Court Access:

It has worked best in the past when each Team sticks to its allocated Court for the evening.

If no pair is available to start a specific match at the above time, then the next Level of those 2 Teams are to take the court.

Example: Team 1 vs Team 2 – if Level 4 players not present to start after previous match finished, Level 3 players of Teams 1 & 2 can take the Court.

Other Teams may only take the court in exceptional circumstances – please obtain agreement from Pennants organisers first.

Court Behaviour:

Please respect the decision of the Referee at all times.

Competition & Prizes:

This is a Team Competition.

Team: The Team Scoring System on SportyHQ will continue to be used to determine the Team Competition. Prizes will be handed out after the final round of matches (along with free Pizza!) at a venue tba.

Grading Rules

  • Grading is dependent upon the Sporty HQ ranking system.

  • If Sporty HQ ranking points are very close between two players, head to head history is used to determine which player is graded higher than the other.

  • Where a new player does not have a Sporty HQ ranking, their grading is predicted by their ability shown at social squash.

  • If a player would like to challenge someone above them so they can play a higher grade, they may challenge a player who is currently ONE LEVEL above them. If the higher ranked player is defeated, the higher ranked player has the right to re-challenge within 2 days of the match. The winner of this match will be graded higher. A challenge is not permitted within 3 days of the date of the first round of the pennant season. A challenge must be refereed by a club member.

  • There may be a very special circumstance where a lower ranked player is graded above a higher ranked player, however whenever this occurs the Pennants Coordinator will provide an explanation.

  • We reserve the right to "reset" player levels half way through each term.

Reserves Rules

  • It is the responsibility of the player who cannot play to find a reserve with the aid of his Captain.

  • A player cannot reserve for another player if they are in a higher division.

  • Firstly, the player in the same team that is in the division below is to be given the option of reserving for the player who cannot play.

  • If this option fails, other players in other teams in the same division are to be given the option of reserving.

  • If this option fails, the reserves list is to be consulted, however only a reserve who has been allocated in the same or a lower division can be used.

  • If this option fails, the match will be forfeited.

Scoring:

  • Point a Rally (PAR) will be used rather than hand-out scoring. A match will be best of 5 games. Each game will be to 15 points, however a game must be won by 2 points. For example, 15-14 will not be the end of the game, it will need to continue until a player is 2 points in front (eg. 19-17).

  • Team scoring will be number of games won per match only.

FEES SEASON INJURY OR UNAVAILABLE: Pennant seasons are designed to run for ten weeks. If a player is injured in the first two weeks then pro-rata refund. The player taking their place is to pay pro-rata for the remainder of that pennant season. If a player is unavailable or relocates for any reason during the pennant season then there is NO refund of any fees paid.
