Due to the rapid nature of turnover in the elective rotation, we cover many important topics quickly and at a surface level. Some of the conversations we engage in during class include:
Worldviews
Internal and external traits
Land and historical context
Intergenerational trauma
Healthy relationships and boundaries
Stereotypes and stigma
Communities, traditions, and belief systems
Lacrosse
The course itself includes only two assignments. One is a set of journals that must be completed after each lesson. The other is the final project for the course. A copy of each is located below with some examples from over the years. CLICK HERE for information to help you complete each journal entry.
The majority of course material is covered as classroom discussions and attendance in the actual class is important to help develop a learner's understanding and find success in the assignments.
*We watch the film The Grizzlies (2015) which does include themes of violence, drug and alcohol abuse, trauma, and discrimination. This film is not mandatory for any student to watch, but it is illustrative of many of the ideas we discuss throughout the course.
