Biosurfactant producing bacteria were identified by their DNA barcoding and biochemical characterization
The bacteria could produce high amount glycoprotein biosurfactant
The secreted biosurfactant showed efficient oil removing ability
This study aimed to isolate and characterize biosurfactant-producing bacteria from oil-contaminated sites. Nine bacterial strains were isolated from a motor garage soil contaminated with oil. After screening methods, two highly effective strains, identified as Bacillus species strain BS2 and Acinetobacter sp. strain BS8, were selected. Optimal culture conditions were determined to maximize biosurfactant production. The extracted biosurfactants, identified as lipopeptides, exhibited antimicrobial activity and were stable under high temperatures and various pH conditions. These biosurfactants have potential for bioremediation in diverse environments.
