Copyright is a legal right protection over any type of work (music, art, etc...) that was made by one's self. If you create it then you have the original ownership, and you own the copyright to that work. 

Fair Use is getting permission to copy a part of a work for a specific purpose (to make it into your own). With fair use you do not need permission from the copyright owner.
