Our friends Beethoven and Mozart are going on adventures around Ms. Stokes' house and neighborhood. Keep checking back to see what they are up to!
Adventure 1
Beethoven and Mozart are learning new instruments. Beethoven picked one from the Percussion family. Mozart picked an instrument from the String family. Can anyone tell me what instruments they chose?
Adventure 2
After a short break, Mozart and Beethoven are back to help Ms. Stokes practice her flute. Mozart says that scales and arpeggios are a very important part of improving your technique. Beethoven says that it is important to practice regularly. A little bit of practice everyday, is better than a lot of practice once or twice a week. Sorry, Beethoven. I will definitely try and practice more often.
What are you practicing at home? Are you practicing an instrument, or a song? Are you practicing your drawing? Are you practicing a sport?
Do you have any practice tips or tricks?
Adventure 3
Even great composers can't be musical all the time. This week, Beethoven and Mozart are keeping fit and having fun in the garden. First they climbed some trees, and then they both enjoyed the slide. Beethoven really likes climbing the rope, and Mozart likes to play on the rings. Psst! I don't think that is how the rings work Mozart.
What activities have you been doing to keep fit and have fun at home?
Adventure 4
This week Beethoven and Mozart went for a walk around their neighborhood and found two very cool places for live music performances. The first is the School of Music at Memorial University (Ms. Stokes went there). The second the St. John's Arts and Culture Center. Both venues host many concerts throughout the year. Beethoven and Mozart even had their music performed there by the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra!
Ms. Stokes has performed a few times at both the School of Music and the Arts and Culture Center. Have you? Can you think of some other places in the province where you can hear live music performances?
Check out the pictures below to see some of the other things that Beethoven and Mozart found on their walk this week.
Adventure 5
Beethoven and Mozart took advantage of the beautiful weather on Saturday and took a road trip to the beach. They came up with a list of their Top 5 Road Trip Songs to listen to along the way. What are your top 5 road trip songs?
Beethoven and Mozart's Top 5 Road Trip Songs
Life is a Highway - Tom Cochran (Mozart likes the Rascal Flatts version better)
Happy - Pharrell Williams
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Shake It Off - Taylor Swift
Dance Monkey - Tones and I
*Bonus: Mozart also suggested "Rondo Alla Turca" since he wrote it, but Beethoven said that they were not allowed to put their own music on the list. You can still check out this cool video of the song though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeEmGvm7kDk.
Beethoven and Mozart had a great time at the beach, and did a pretty good job of maintaining their social distance. They collected some small beach rocks to use for a fun composition activity.
Adventure 6
Beethoven and Mozart are trying out new ways to compose music. This week, they are using the rocks that they collected from their trip to the beach to help them create some fun rhythms. You can do this too! Ms. Stokes made a step-by-step guide. Just click on the link to the slideshow to get started. How many rhythms can you create? What other things can you use to help you compose rhythms?
