Welcome back families!
I understand this school year will look and feel very different but Ms. Minifee and I are excited to see everyone!
This week will be a lot of going over expectations, what the schedule will look like for the school day, and going over Math, Science, Social Studies, and English. I look forward to seeing and talking to the students and their families. Have an awesome week!

August 30th to September 3rd
Week #2 is in the books! Thank you for being so flexible this week with having Monday off. This week we worked on what fractions are, the Earths layers, and the elements of a story. The scholars did a great job!
Just some notes for next week. Please remember to bring in your scholars devices back to the school that way we can get devices repaired and get an inventory of what technology we have school wide. Also please make sure to sign the paperwork that was sent home and return it to the classroom.

September 7th to September 10th
Good Afternoon!
This was a great week with the students. This week we continued to learn about fractions, the Earth's layers, elements of a story, and begun working on the difference between primary and secondary sources. We also began using Prodigy in the classroom which is a math app to help them improve their math skills. We also began using Epic! this week to improve and work on our reading skills.
Just some notes for next week, I am in a professional development next Tuesday and Wednesday so the scholars will have a substitute teacher for those days. Also, there is a Parent Action Committee Meeting (PAC) on September 15th via zoom with Ms. Turner.
Our Student of The Week this week is Kyanni!!!!! Great Job doing all of your work, having a good attitude, and helping your classmates.

September 13th to September 17th
We made it! Happy Friday Families :)
This week I was out for two days for professional development but the scholars did amazing with Ms. Minifee. They worked on fractions and money, Earth's layers and plate tectonics, reviewed primary and secondary sources, and did more with the elements of a story. Today we are working on our project for open house to show to the families next week! Our topic is the Earth's Layers and Ms. Minifee and I are so excited for you to see your scholars hard work.
Some notes for next week. I am sending home a media consent form to be filled out and returned to school. Thursday, September 23rd is the Fathers Walk from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, the students have an early release at 12:00 pm, and open house for the families is from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Open House for FDR will be over Zoom. I will send the Zoom link that way it can be accessed the day of. This is a busy day but I appreciate your flexibility and can't wait to see you and go over our classroom expectations and our classroom project!
Our Student of the Week is Mason! Great Job getting back to focusing in the classroom and getting better at paying attention in class and getting all of your work done. You are always respectful, responsible, and safe!

Happy Friday!
This week we learned about Landforms in Science, Decimals and Money in Math, Primary and Secondary Sources in Social Studies, and the Elements of a Story in English. The scholars are doing a great job in class.
Thank you for all of your help and support this week! It was great to meet the families that showed up at open house on Thursday. Here is the link for the open house presentation for any of the families who were not able to make it.
I look forward to the next time that we can share our classrooms work with the scholars families.
Our Student of the Week is Alex! Great Job getting all of your work done and following the Big 3 in the classroom. You are always respectful, responsible, and safe in the classroom and around the school building.

September 27th to October 1st
We are officially done with 6 weeks of school! Also Happy October!
This week we focused a lot on the Elements of a Story by making our own stories. Monday we made characters, Tuesday we made the setting, Wednesday we went over the Conflict. Thursday we focused on transition so we went over what a resume is and how to get a job and we played 3 Kahoot games to go over the information and to see what they preferred. Friday (today), we are going over Education, Employment, and Independent Living to explain it and have each scholar make a goal towards each area. The students have also began to start leading classroom meeting in the morning and they are doing a fantastic job! Kyanni and Bre'Anna led it yesterday and today.
Some notes for next week. If your scholars signed up for a club before school, please make sure that they are here at 7:35 am and they will go to their club teacher (Mr. Allie, Ms. Stewart, or Mr. Bolden). Also, I will be out on Friday so the students will have a substitute. Other than that it should be smooth sailing. Thank you and your scholars for all of your hard work and effort this school year.
Our student of the week is Bre'Anna! You have done an awesome job this week with your schoolwork, helping out in the classroom with morning meeting, and being a kind and helpful scholar. We appreciate having you in our class.
October 4th to October 8th
Happy Friday!
This week we worked on Fossils in Science, Word Problems in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and reviewed Primary and Secondary Sources and the Current News in Social Studies. For our fossil lesson in science, we completed a puzzle as a classroom and made salt dough fossils! The students are also leading and helping lead morning meeting, where we talk about the day, week, month, and year, current events, do a check in, and talk about the schedule for the day.
A note for next week. We do have school on Monday, October 11th for Columbus Day.
Our student of the week is Yaunay! You are friendly, kind, and hardworking in the classroom. We also appreciate your love of music and dancing in the classroom. Keep up the good work!
October 11th to October 15th

We are two weeks away from completing our first quarter of school. Great job!
This week we worked on Fossils in Science, Word Problems in Math, a scarecrow craft to decorate our door for a school contest, Columbus Day information and a pencil ship craft for Social Studies. It was a fun week and we are proud of our work and our decorations for the classroom for the Halloween season. The students also ran morning meeting again this week and are doing better every day!
Some notes for next week. Week #9 is the last week of the first quarter, so grade cards will be sent home on November 3rd and that day is also Parent Teacher Conferences. I will put more information in week #10 that is more specific.
The student of the week is De'Mario! You are doing great at utilizing your communication board and working with Ms. Mabe and Ms. Minifee. We can see that you try your best and we are glad to have you in our classroom.
October 18th to October 22nd
We are officially in the last week of the quarter! The scholars are doing an awesome job in the classroom and are very hard workers.
This week we started a classroom guided inquiry project specifically about biographies. Kyanni is researching Michelle Obama, Bre'Anna is researching Tara Strong, Mason is researching LeBron James, Alex is researching Bruno Mars, and De'Mario is researching Snoop Dog. They did a great job for their first time researching and finding information. We also watched some Halloween themed movies and played with puzzles as a Fun Friday reward for the students doing so well.
Some notes for next week. We will have a guest in the classroom to observe on Tuesday and we will be working on learning what a number line is and making our own to use in the classroom so make sure to come ready to learn and create! Also next week is Spirit Week! Monday is Wacky Tacky Day, Tuesday is Sports Day, Wednesday is Halloween Colors Day, Thursday is 90's Day, and Friday is FDRA Colors Day (Black and Gold).
The student of the week is Alex! He is doing a great job participating and helping in the classroom and following directions. He also has a great attitude in the classroom and tries his hardest. Thank you for being awesome!

This week we worked on the Branches of Government, Number Lines, Skip Counting, Fossils, Reading Comprehension, Creating our own word problems and solving them, and learned about Halloween.
We also had our Halloween Party on Friday where we played games, ate candy, listened to music, watched some shows, drank apple cider and made caramel apples. Us and the scholars had a great time.
Some reminders for next week. Tuesday is voting day and since our school is a polling place we will not be coming into school. Instead, this will be a remote day and we will be in class over zoom. Wednesday is an early release at noon and parent teacher conferences from 12:30 to 5:00. I will send home a sheet to sign up for times and so you can let us know whether you prefer to meet over zoom or in person. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Good Afternoon Families!
This week was short so we focused on having some fun and getting some work done.
This week is Thanksgiving Break so we will not have school this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Have an amazing holiday!
We also had a Harvest Party for the scholars in middle school who we wanted to thank for doing so well in school and following the school rules. I am happy to say that the entire class was able to participate in this event.
Next week we are going back to a normal schedule and getting back to completing our work and projects. Science Fair is 3 weeks away so we are finishing up our projects so we can start on our posters.

This week we worked on our Science Fair Projects and a Fall Science Experiment about Leaves Changing Color, Word Problems and a number mystery coloring page in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events for Social Studies. We also made snowmen/penguins to decorate our room and classroom door for the winter. It was a fun week and we are super proud of our work. The students also ran morning meeting again this week and are doing better every day!

Group #1 is Kyanni, Yaunay, and Bre'Anna and their project is Slime Chemistry. Group #2 is Mason, Alex, and De'Mario and their project is to make a Rubber Band Paddle Boat.

This week we worked on Biomes again in Science and talked about animals and their adaptations in their biomes, did Word Problems, worked on our angles, and Prodigy in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events for Social Studies.
We also started an animal project where the students did guided research of an animal of their choosing and found pictures to put on a poster.
On Friday we did an economics lesson using Dunkin Donuts hot chocolate! The students came up to the register with their money and paid for the cup, lid, hot chocolate, and marshmallows. They loved it and we had a great time practicing our money skills.
Reminder for next week. Parent teacher conferences are next Wednesday so there is no school. Please send back the form with your preferences of times to meet with you. Thank you!

Also we all worked together to come up with an idea and decorate the door for Black History Month!

We also decorated boxes for Valentines Day and celebrated by playing Uno and making Valentines for our classmates.
It was also Black History Month spirit week where we saw authentic African dancers and drummers preform and they let us join in and had a luncheon on Thursday to celebrate!
No School on Friday for Professional Development for the teachers and a reminder there is no school on Monday because of Presidents Day. Have a great and relaxing long weekend with your scholars.

This week we worked on and talked potential and kinetic energy, completed vocabulary for this subject, and did an experiment called Energy in Motion where we threw different sized balls on the playground to see how much potential and kinetic energy they had in Science, did Word Problems, worked on our angles, and Prodigy in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events in Social Studies.
We also had True2U this week and talked about our strengths and why they help us now and how they can help us in the future!

This week we worked on and talked about an atom and what makes up and atom in Science, did Word Problems, worked on our angles, and Prodigy in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events in Social Studies.
We also made model atoms by using starburst and identified the parts of the atom by using different colored bouncy balls!

This week we worked on and talked about electricity and electric circuits, plasma balls, and electricity vocabulary in Science, did Word Problems, worked on our angles, and Prodigy in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events in Social Studies.
We also made our own electric circuits and played around with different ways to use electric circuits and played with a plasma ball and learned how it worked. Very science filled week and the scholars had a blast!
Also on Friday (April Fools Day) the students were pranked by a fake teacher (in disguise), brownies (Brown E's), and a dinosaur teacher! (Ms. Hedrick in a dino suit). It was a fun day full of jokes and fun!

This week we worked on and talked about magnetism and we did a magnet sort in Science, did Word Problems, worked on our angles, and Prodigy in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events in Social Studies.
The students had a blast with the magnet sort and went all around the classroom to find objects that were and weren't magnetic.
We also colored butterflies to put on the classroom door to decorate it for Spring!
A reminder there is no school next Friday for Good Friday but there will be school the following Monday after Easter.

This week we worked on and talked about different kinds of forces in Science, did Word Problems, money, budgeting, and Prodigy in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events and the difference between wants and needs in Social Studies.
The students also had an Easter Party on Thursday and it was a blast. We made drums, colored Easter eggs, decorated Easter bags, and had pizza and cookies for lunch!
A reminder that there is no school on Friday, we will see the scholars back on Monday, have a great Easter holiday.
April 18th to April 22nd

This week we worked on and talked about different kinds of forces in Science especially gravity and how it works on Earth and on different planets, did Word Problems, money, and Prodigy in Math, Reading Comprehension in English, and Current Events and the origin of assembly lines in Social Studies.
We also did a paper airplane project on Thursday and Friday where we made individual airplanes, then made them in an assembly line to see if the process would go faster. Afterwards the scholars had an awesome time testing out their paper airplanes and even showing some students in the younger grades how to make and throw them.
A reminder that next Wednesday is an early release for the scholars and Parent Teacher Conferences! The conferences will be from 1 pm to 5 pm and I'll send home a sign up sheet for times this weekend. I look forward to hearing from you.
