I am excited to be a teacher with Durham Public Schools for the 2023 - 2024 school year. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, I’m a big fan of Maryland style lump crab cakes, art festivals, musical festivals, historical landmarks and cultural museums. Although I am a transplant in the RDU, my career in education began in 2005 as an Early Childhood educator in Atlanta, GA after graduating from the University of Maryland in College Park. I have taught a range of ages and subjects from preschoolers to adults, in 3 states and I am a certified & highly qualified ELA teacher for grades 6-12 in NC. Subjects areas that I currently teach include high school English, Creative Writing, and African American Literature with additional background facilitating the Poetry Out Loud competition for high schoolers. This year, I am hopeful to incite an analytical and curious approach to learning in the classroom, while developing the growing literacy skills of our community. I am thrilled to teach in Bull City, where I am also an active poet and Spoken Word artist and aspiring Yoga instructor. Besides having a genuine love and passion for reading and writing, I love connecting with students and, whether face-to-face or virtually, and I am confident that we'll grow more knowledgeable, aware and successful together.
