This is not "business as usual." Do what you are able to do within the context of your own family and please reach out to me or your child's teacher for support if you need help. The following are 5 social-emotional learning tips for families from Kera News:
Monitor your stress levels and reconnect. Take walks, get outside, breathing exercises.
Stick to a schedule. Get plenty of sleep, eat health meals, set a time to go outside or exercise at a certain time each day.
Teach new life skills, not just academics. Be present and make some memories. Focus on hands-on life skills and spending quality time together.
Avoid conflict before it begins. Focus on helping your child recognize their emotions. "If you can name it, you can tame it. Once kids recognize their emotions, they can be taught to deal with them in healthier ways like taking walks and stepping away.
