Since 2010, I have dedicated my career to education, serving in various positions. As a college student, I began working with students as a step-team coach, igniting my passion for engaging with and supporting young learners. During my undergraduate studies, I worked full-time as an after-school instructor, where I demonstrated proficiency in creating organized, enriching programming.
After graduating, I embarked on a career as an English teacher, honing my skills in differentiated and diverse instruction to meet the needs of students at all levels. I integrated technology into my classroom, eventually leading professional development workshops to train other teachers. Concurrently, I continued to coach the step team and organize culturally relevant activities for students.
Over the summers, I expanded my experience as an Academic and enrichment Coordinator for a summer program serving students from local Title I schools. In this role, I planned and implemented a summer reading curriculum, facilitated community partnerships for weekly enrichment activities, and organized cultural field trips.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I further developed my expertise in virtual instruction, creating rigorous and culturally relevant lessons and curricula for all online students. During this time, I also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary English Education. I also began my advocacy journey, lobbying our civic leaders to invest in educating our children and provide equitable resources for all. I have participated in and led many professional developments and mentor relationships, all in the name of education.
My diverse experiences have equipped me with the skills and passion to excel as the Student Support Services Academic Coordinator & Advisor for TRIO programs at Livingstone College, where I served first-generation, low-income, and/or disabled college students. Additionally, I now serve as the GED Program Director for the largest community college in North Carolina, focusing on helping adult students earn their high school credentials and transition to higher education. Throughout my career, I have consistently demonstrated a self-driven, lifelong learning approach, guided by the belief that education is a journey, not a destination.
