First Grade

Hello First Grade Scientists,

We are starting a new unit called Light and Sound.

Please review the vocabulary words provided below.

Week one: March 23rd-27th: You can make your own matching game for the vocabulary words, by writing the definitions on one paper and the words on the other. You could also print or cut off the word from the definition. Study these words.

Week two: March 30th-April3rd: Read pages 8-13 then complete pages 24,25 and 26.

Please Do Not do any other pages unless I write to continue.

Go online to georgiaaquarium.org and scroll down to Web Cam. They have great videos of the animals. You can view and write a few sentences of what you watched or talk to your parents about it.

  • Also zoo.sandiegozoo.org has live videos to watch.

  • pbskids.org My little scientists can watch Sid The Science Kid videos.

Remember all the things we learned about the Needs of Animals. Watch and see if you can learn about these Pandas.

Week 3: Hello scientists.

This week you are to sit for 15 minutes with your eyes closed and listen for the sounds around you.

Then write a few sentences about what you heard and why you think that sound is happening.

Example:

  • I hear the sirens of a fire truck. They are going to an emergency.

  • I hear baby birds chirping. They are telling their mom they are awake and hungry.

Then draw a picture to go along with the sounds you hear.

Week 4: Enjoy your virtual field trips !!!!


Week of April 20th: Please click on the link below and watch the video: Introduction of Sound.

  • Then under the video please click on Discussion Questions and choose 3 After Video questions write them on paper and answer them.

  • Send in your answers on Class DOJO. The assignment is due next week.

  • Extra work if you want to you can play the game at the end or do the vocabulary words.

Week of April 27th.

  • Read the story of LIGHT (pages 14-22) in packet

  • Then on page 27 Natural and Artificial Light Sort Color, cut and glue pictures in the correct column.

  • If you do not have the packet Then just read the story on the PDF above. Then on a piece of paper make 2 columns, label them Artificial Light/ Natural Light, then draw 4 pictures on each side.

Week of May 4th.

Hi Scientists,

We have started working on LIGHT. Remember that Artificial Light: (is Not Natural and is made by people).

Today you will go on a scavenger hunt:

*You will go through your home and find things made of ARTIFICIAL Light.

*Then you will write at least 3 sentences describing your artificial light and draw a picture to show us what you found. (you can tell us where the artificial light is and what it is used for)

If you are having trouble please go back to the story of LIGHT and reread it. It is a great way to review.
