This class is meant to act as a survey course, covering varying types of literature, texts and cultures. We will also take this opportunity to explore universal patterns and themes, and their importance in literary canon. In other words, we will define what literature is to us and why we study it.
Beyond the study of literature, we will also be preparing for life beyond high school. We will focus on developing solid writing and analytical skills.

Rules and Routines
Only one student can be out to the bathroom at a time.
Students must be in dress code at all times. Failure to be in dress code will impact your class participation grade.
At the beginning of class, there will be an agenda posted on the board. This will include the directions for getting our class started (Do nows, worksheets, independent reading, needed supplies, etc.). Follow the directions on the agenda so we can start class quickly and efficiently while Ms. Casey takes attendance.
The agenda will also have a timer on it. When this timer is up, you must put your cellphone in the holder by the door. You will be assigned a number and your phone will go into the coordinating pocket.
If you are absent, please check Teams to see what you missed or ask Ms. Casey. Copies of worksheets will be put in the absence folder for our class which can be found in the back of room104.
Physical worksheets must be put in the Turn-in-Bin when commpleted. If it's not in the bin, it will not be graded and will be marked missing.
If you are turning in an assignment, please let me know via Teams chat message (whether it is a digial assignment or a worksheet, send me a message).
Late work for can be turned in for partial credit until one week before the marking period ends. After that, it will not be accepted. (see more detailes in the syllabus below)
All class tests and quizzes are open book/open notes. If you want to retake a quiz or a test, let Ms. Casey know.
