What is Digital Access?
Digital Access is the ability to participate in a digital society. It gives access to tools and technology that are used in order to fully participate online. However, students will also be able to understand that not every student has the same access at home.
Examples of Digital Access
Example 1)
Assignment:
-The teacher assigns students a homework task that requires students to visit websites and collect data from the websites. Students will be asked to create a Venn Diagram that compares and contrasts data from the website. They will turn in their Venn Diagram at the beginning of class the next day.
Explanation:
This would not be fair for all students because not everyone has access to the internet/technology outside of school and not every parent has the ability to help a child in this early childhood classroom access these websites.
It is best to perform a task like this during the school day.
Example 2)
Announcements are posted every week for classwork, however, the announcements can only be viewed online. In order for students to view announcements they must have digital access.
It is not fair for every student because not everyone has the same internet or technology access at home and outside of school. Hard copies of announcements will need to be given out each week in order to keep it fair.
