“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies... The man who never reads lives only one.”
— George R.R. Martin
As a faculty member in the Department of Computer Applications, I proudly serve as the co-coordinator of the Reading Club at BVM Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, alongside Mr. Abin Jose. In this role, I actively contribute to the planning, organization, and execution of diverse literary and student engagement activities throughout the academic year. The Reading Club serves as a vibrant platform for students to explore literature, express their creativity, and develop essential skills such as critical thinking, communication, and reflective reading.
The Reading Club is dedicated to fostering a strong and consistent reading culture among undergraduate students. Our vision is to create a community where reading is not seen as a task, but as a joyful, enriching, and lifelong habit—a means to broaden both the intellect and imagination. Through thoughtfully curated activities, the club promotes academic enrichment, creativity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for literature and language.
Proposed Activities
As part of our vision to foster a vibrant reading culture on campus, the Reading Club has proposed a thoughtful series of activities for the academic year 2025–26. Planned initiatives include a Reading Day Celebration to highlight the importance of literature in daily life, Reading Challenges and Competitions to promote consistent reading habits, and a Reading Room Beautification project to create an inspiring space for student readers.
The club also aims to host Author and Local Writer Interactions to provide literary exposure, as well as a Book Collection Drive and a Library Visit with Book Donation to encourage community sharing and social responsibility. Additional highlights include a Book Exhibition to inspire genre exploration, a Guest Talk titled “The Joy of Reading” to cultivate lifelong interest in reading, and Monthly Book Review Sessions focused on developing critical thinking, public speaking, and analytical skills.
