What skills will help my child transition to kindergarten?
The best way to transition your child for kindergarten is through encouraging independence and self-help skills. Here are some skills your child can practice at home:
they can put on and take off their jacket and zip it up
they can put shoes on the proper feet
they can open and close their backpacks
they can put belongings in their backpack
they can open their lunch kit and lunch containers
they can use the toilet independently ie. flushing, wiping, and washing hands
they can recognize their name in print
What does my child need to bring to school on their first day?
One pair of labelled indoor shoes (to be worn in classroom & gym) - the best option is to have a pair of non-marking runners in the colors white, black or navy.
A full size labelled backpack
A labelled water bottle
A set of labelled non-uniform clothes (shirt, pants, socks, & underwear)
What does drop off and pick up look like? What should I do if my child is late or absent?
The school day for kindergarten runs from 8:40 am to 3:20 pm. Doors open at 8:30 am to allow spacing of students. Children enter and exit the school through the playground doors.
If your child arrives after 8:40, please enter the school at the front office doors and check in with the office.
BASC (Before and After School Care)
Before Care: 7:30-8:30 am
After Care: 3:20-5:30 pm
Children who are attending after school care will be accompanied by a staff member to the parish hall.
If your child will be late or absent from school, please email the school office and the classroom teacher.

How do I communicate with my child's teacher?
Email is the preferred method.
Open communication between home and school is paramount. I welcome any questions or concerns. For emails, please allow for 48 hours for a response due to teaching demands.
If it is an urgent matter please phone the school office.
Specialist's emails can be found on the school website under staff contacts.
A Mail Folder should be in your child's backpack daily for information to travel between home and school. Any items on the "home" side please remove and keep at home. Any items on the "bring back" side must be read, signed, completed, etc. and returned to school.
What happens at lunch?
Kindergartens eat lunch in the classroom from 11:30 - 12:00 pm. After eating, they go outside for a thirty minute recess.
Please send a healthy lunch and two small snacks each day. Avoid sending any candy, sugary drinks, or chocolate as it often makes learning difficult. Do not send items with any type of nut in them. Send warm items in a thermos, as students do not have access to a microwave. Please make sure to send necessary cutlery in your child's lunch kit.
Through out the year a hot lunch program is available on certain days of the week. Information about hot lunches will be sent home once they begin.
What items should I label?
Label EVERYTHING. All uniform items, outerwear, shoes, water bottle, & extra clothing.
