Dear Students and Families,

Hello! My name is Mrs. Thom and I am Memorial School's Science Teacher. I’d like to tell you something about myself, just as I hope to get to know you while we work, learn and grow together.

I earned my Geoscience degree in May of 07' and started teaching Physical Science in September 07' at Bayonne High School. A year later I began teaching science to the students of grades 5-8 at Memorial School. The insights I gained in my previous experience as a high school teacher helps me successfully prepare my middle school students for the next steps in their education. I understand what is expected of high school students and will do everything I can to get my students ready to meet those expectations.

My philosophy as an educator is that all students can succeed. Although individual student needs can vary, I believe success is measured by progress made. I aim to meet the needs of each of my students by collaborating with fellow educators and parents to discuss student interests, strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies that will ensure progress is made and student growth occurs.

As a teacher, the most important goal I have is to provide a safe, organized and positive learning environment for my students to grow and develop to their full potential. To accomplish this goal I have a clear, consistent, and fair classroom management plan. All members of our classroom community are expected to practice respectful, responsible and reliable behaviors.

I look forward to getting to know you and rest assured that students are in good hands while in my care. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact me anytime. My telephone number at Memorial School is 201-440-2782 ext 111 or I can be reached at vthom@shmemorial.org

Sincerely,

Mrs. Valentine Thom
