This January, our K–5 artists are kicking off the new year by diving into the vibrant, energetic world of Keith Haring! Known for his bold lines and "dancing" figures, Haring’s work is the perfect inspiration for students to explore how simple shapes can express big emotions.
Throughout the month, students will learn about Haring's life and his belief that "art is for everybody." They will then transition from art history to hands-on creation, using a variety of dynamic materials to bring their own "doodles" to life:
Tempera Painting & Sticks: To capture those iconic, saturated colors and thick outlines.
Markers: For fine-tuning details and rhythmic patterns.
Construction Paper: To practice bold compositions and cut-out shapes.
By experimenting with these different media, students aren't just making art—they are learning how to use movement, color, and symbols to tell their own unique stories. We can’t wait to see the hallways filled with their creative, Haring-inspired masterpieces!
