Here is what our high school artists are mastering behind the scenes for their latest project:

• Optical Color Theory & Art History Students explored the roots of Neo-Impressionist Pointillism through art analysis. They compared Georges Seurat’s famous scientific approach to color (using tiny dots of light to build realistic scenes) with Howardena Pindell’s modern, multi-layered abstract style.

• The Science of Painting Instead of mixing colors on a palette, students layer pure acrylic paint side-by-side and on top of cured layers. Their goal? Getting the viewer's eye to mix the colors naturally, building rich values, depth, and vibrant color intensity!

• Precision & Tool Control Working with fluid acrylics, styluses, and dowels requires serious technique. Students are controlling paint viscosity (thickness), dot scale, and spacing to create clean, raised textures without any bleeding or slumping.

• Design & Layout Systems Using geometric and organic layouts—like mandalas, precise grids, and abstract color fields—students create stunning rhythm and dimensional surface texture in their final original artworks.
