Frequently asked questions with answers below. If you have a question not listed here please just let me know and I will do my best to answer it!
When and where do I drop my child off and pick them up daily?
All kindergarten students can be dropped off and picked up at the office doors. Drop off times are 7:25am- 8:00am. Pick up times are 3:15pm- 3:30pm.
What about the playground? Will my kindergarten child be playing with bigger kids while outside?
Kindergarten has their own playground that is fenced off from the others, therefore the kindergarten students will not be allowed to play with older children during outside playtime.
What happens if my kindergarten child feels sick or has an injury?
We have a school nurse that is in the building Monday-Friday from 7:30am-3:30pm so that the children always have someone to evaluate and treat. If your child has been injured we will immediately call and inform you.
Is there an after school program available for kindergarteners if the parents work until 5?
Yes. There is an afterschool program until 5:30 on Monday-Friday for students who need tutoring or extra help in any subjects. If they do not fall under this category there is an option for the school bus to deliver the child to Sunnyside Daycare where they charge a weekly fee to attend to your child. They provide snacks and help with homework and are open until 6:00 pm Monday-Friday.
I would like to volunteer or help in my child's class. How do I get this started?
Parent volunteers are highly recommended and encouraged. If you are interested just email your Childs teacher and they will get it set up for you.
Is there a naptime for the kindergarten students?
Yes. For the first half of the year we set aside time for nap. The second half of the year we begin to phase naptime out to allow more time for learning and play.
Do kindergarten students have homework?
Yes. Students will have homework. Maybe not every night, but kindergarteners learn such a large amount in such a short time, therefore the homework helps to keep them caught up on lessons and helps to build knowledge.
What can I do to prepare my child for kindergarten?
Focus on self-help skills, develop and teach the child how to follow routines and directions, acknowledge his/her feelings, and help him to develop independence at home.
What do I need to bring on the first day of kindergarten?
A supply list will be sent to each student on the app REMIND, they will be available on the school website, and they are available at your local Walmart.
How should I communicate with you during the school year?
I can be directly messaged on the REMIND app, email, and by calling the office and requesting a call back.
