Hello! My name is Ashley Smith, and I am so excited to be your English and/or Creative Writing teacher. This is my seventh year as a teacher and fifth year teaching at Oak Hill High School. I moved to West Virginia from Virginia a few years ago to be with my husband, Eric. I grew up in a military family, which has had a big impact on who I am as a person and an educator. I have been extremely fortunate to have lived in a lot of places and to have seen a lot of incredible things. I was born in Landstuhl, Germany, and then moved to Alabama, Hawaii, northern Virginia, and finally settled in central Virginia after my mother retired from the US Army. After high school, I attended Lynchburg College, now known as the University of Lynchburg, where I majored in English literature with a minor in secondary education.
Being a teacher is something that I have wanted to do since I was six years old, and I am so happy I get to pursue my passion here at Oak Hill High School. Aside from my devotion to teaching, I mostly spend my time hiking with my dog, Arizona, watching sports and documentaries with my husband, and of course, reading and writing.
I look forward to us getting to know each other as the year progresses and having a tremendous year of growth together. If you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to talk to me in person or contact me via Remind or email. It is going to be a great year!
