Welcome to Second Grade!

It is a joy to welcome you and your child to our classroom for what I know will be an exciting and successful school year. My name is Alyssa Saulnier (pronounced sawn-yay), and I am honored to be your child's second-grade teacher.

A little about me: 

Originally from Colorado, I grew up right here in Douglas County. After earning my degree in Elementary Education from UNC in Greeley, I continued my education at Regis University, where I earned my Master's degree as a Reading Specialist. Most of my teaching experience has been in the primary grades, and more recently I have worked with students across all grade levels as a reading interventionist. This year, I am thrilled to begin my 15th year in education at Gold Rush!  At home, my husband and I have identical twin girls who will be starting third grade at Gold Rush this year. Much of our free time is spent cheering them on at softball games and enjoying everything Colorado has to offer. This summer, our family explored the beautiful Colorado mountains, went fishing, and even rode a mountain roller coaster! Disney is another favorite in our house, and we're always dreaming about our next trip.

Creating a warm, organized, and structured classroom where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn is one of my highest priorities. Clear expectations and consistent routines help children build confidence, develop independence, and feel successful each day. Because every child learns in their own unique way, instruction is designed to meet students where they are while providing meaningful opportunities to grow, build confidence, and showcase their learning. A strong partnership between home and school is an important part of a successful school year. Open communication is always encouraged, and I hope you will reach out anytime you have questions, concerns, or information that will help me better support your child.
