Hello K-03 Parents,
Welcome to the PS/IS 30 family! My name is Mrs. Sanchez and I am going to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher! I am writing this letter to you to welcome you and your child to our K-03 Family as we start a fresh new year together. Our classroom environment is one that will be engaging and nurturing.
A few things about me: I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and got married in the summer of 2016. I am of Puerto Rican & Italian descent, but I do not speak Spanish. Learning to speak it fluently is a goal of mine! I am vegan, which means I do not eat any animal products (dairy, meat, or seafood). I thoroughly enjoy making my classroom look as inviting and engaging for the students as possible. I attended Adelphi University and Hunter College. I hold a masters degree in Early Childhood Education, with an additional certificate in Children with Special Needs. This is my sixth year teaching at P.S./I.S. 30, and I received tenure. I pride myself on making my class feel like we are part of our own family. This often leads to my former students families staying close to me long after they have graduated from Kindergarten! I am so excited to get to know all of my new K-03 families this year, as well as welcome back familiar faces as siblings of former K-03 students join us this year.
Although I consider my students “my kids”, my husband and I are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our first child, a boy due in January of 2018. This means that I will be taking a maternity leave from the classroom. You will receive more information as to when my leave will begin, and when I will expect to return. While I am gone, the students will be left in very capable hands. I am currently working on securing a long term substitute teacher who will be able to step right into our classroom and pick up right where I left off!
Since the first few days of school can be somewhat busy both at home and in school, I wanted to keep you informed about what is going on in our classroom. You will find in this packet a list of our most common Classroom Procedures. Please be sure to review this list with your child and keep it as a reference throughout the year. I have also sent home a Family Interview Sheet for you to fill out and return to us in a sealed envelope.
Included with daily homework, your child will be asked to read at least one book and log it on our reading log, which will be kept in your child’s homework folder. To celebrate our love of literacy, I will periodically check these reading logs.
Many of you received a materials list at the Kindergarten Orientation. It would be greatly appreciated if you could send in these supplies at your earliest convenience. When doing so, please label each item with your child’s name on it so that I may know who brought in which supplies. Thank you!
I look forward to seeing the students grow both academically and socially in this important year. Please feel free to contact me for any matter, large or small. These young learners will be tomorrow’s leaders.
Sincerely, Mrs. Sanchez
