Homework

CHECK YOUR CHILD’S FOLDER EVERYNIGHT AS WELL AS THEIR RED HOMEWORK BOOK DAILY.

When homework starts in a few weeks PLEASE LEAVE HOMEWORK IN A SAFE PLACE @HOME until MONDAY. On Mondays your child will receive a homework packet with typically 4-6 pages of Math and ELA(language arts). Ideally your child should work on one page a night. I understand with prior commitments sometimes this is difficult to do which is why I send the whole packet home on Mondays and you can feel free to work at your own pace.

BUT IT SHOULD NOT COME BACK UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MONDAY in your child's folder.

I will then put another new homework packet in as I take the old one out.

The homework packet will contain 2 pages of the letter/sound of the week practice for phonics and 3 pages which will correspond with the work we do in school and the story we read at school. The children will have to tell you about the story we read in school and the homework should be done according to that information they tell you. The phonics readers are the two “booklets” sent home. These can stay home and not be returned back to school. This is for you and your child to read at home while he/she points to the word and begins to read.

ALL HOMEWORK WILL BE DUE ON MONDAYS

Homework is an important part of Kindergarten. With our new curriculum we need to work at school and at home together. I know we will have a successful year if we work together. If homework is not turned in your child may not play in centers in the morning and will continue not to play throughout the week until it is turned in. This will also start teaching responsibility at an early age.

First in Math program usernames and passwords will be sent out at BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT. I hope that everyone has the opportunity to sign on and play website www.firstinmath.com
