2018 Winner of Guo Ruijuan Memorial Fund

To honor a legacy of innovation and commitment to educating youth, this fund will be awarded annually to a Mandarin Immersion or Mandarin World Language teacher in the Participate program who demonstrates significant contributions to Mandarin language/cultural studies and student outcomes.

SummerSTEM is a collaboration between WakeEd Partnership, the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), and numerous STEM businesses and organizations in North Carolina. This eight-day professional development program exists to enrich the educator’s understanding of the knowledge and skills that are necessary to succeed in STEM careers.

During SummerSTEM, one-hundred educators from WCPSS schools engage in hands-on experiences designed to bring real-world lessons to the classroom.

Stanford University Teacher Leadership Seminar, 2018 Summer

In this one-week 40-hour STARTALK program, I had a solid understanding of the STARTALK-Endorsed Principles for Teaching and Learning Languages, World Readiness Standards for Language Learning and substantial experience in applying the principles and concepts featured in these documents into effective classroom practices. I was supported to develop my own professional leadership development plan and implement it in my own teaching setting.

STARTALK: Fostering the Whole Language Experience, 2018 Summer

Center for Human Services (CHS), Westminster, MD, USA

This is a two-week face to face and two-weeks online program that focus on fostering the whole language experience: Communities, Art, Music, and History in the Chinese Classroom.

Teaching & Assessing Chinese Culture and Language, 2017 Summer

University of Minnesota, Twin City, MN, USA

This is a two-week summer teacher education program that helped me better identify and enact the characteristics of culture in proficiency-based instruction, and the specific implications for curriculum, instruction and assessment for a U.S. classroom.

Building Teacher Capacities, Generating Student Interest, 2015 Summer

University of Vermont, Burlington, VA, USA

This is a two-week combined program with teacher training and student teaching. I have learned the latest methodology for Chinese language instruction and practice them when I teach in the student program.
