He participated in music programs offered through Unity and extended that love by creating a regional jazz combo band of friends. It wasn’t enough to play previously published music, he was a student of music and truly “understood” it. He composed jazz pieces the combo would go on to play publicly and even record in studio. Although Roen loved performing, he also found great joy in sharing music through teaching and engaging others to join in. In honor of his love of music, and what it meant to his close circle of family and friends, his parents lovingly offer this scholarship to a fellow Unity graduate and lover of music as a memorial to their son, Roen.
