Classroom Expectations
Classroom Expectations
In music class, these are the following guidelines for all students:
M: Make Good Choices
U: Use Kind Words
S: Show Respect to Classmates, the Teacher and the Music
I: Involve Yourself
C: Care for our Room and Instruments
Positive Behavior Plans
In our music room, I use three different levels of recognition for positive behavior and class achievement. These are Mystery Musician, Musician of the Month, and "Grand Behavior".
Mystery Musician
Each morning, I will select one student from each class for the day and put it in the Mystery Musician pocket. Only I will know who the mystery musician is for each class. If the mystery musician has met all of our classroom expectations, they will be revealed and will:
be given a note to bring home (Valley Park)
choose a music sticker (Valley Park)
move their class up a step on the piano keys
a Dojo point (Penn Beach)
The mystery musician, along with other stand-out students, will also add stickers to our mystery Sticker Mural poster. (Penn Beach)
If the mystery musician did not meet expectations for that class, their name will be put back into the mix and will have an opportunity another day. This name will not be announced but the students will be reminded of our expectations as a whole.
Musician of the Month (Penn Beach)
Each month, I will choose one 4th and one 5th grade student that has demonstrated qualities such as hard work, musical growth and courage, creativity, leadership, kindness, and a positive attitude. The Musician of the Month gets a certificate and their picture is displayed in the hallway for the rest of the year. I will also send an email to their parents, homeroom teacher, and the principal to let them know about this accomplishment. At the end of the year, students that have earned the Musician of the Month award have their name announced and receive a medal.
"Grand Behavior"
All classes will participate in the whole class reward system of Grand Behavior. Each class will have the opportunity to earn five letters to spell the word "M-U-S-I-C" by observing our class rules, following directions throughout our music-making, entering quietly and going directly to their assigned seats, lining up quietly, etc. For every class that earns all 5 letters, the Mystery Musician will move a clip a step up on the piano for their homeroom teacher. When a class reaches the end of their keyboard, they will be awarded with a "special music day" .
