Standards & Grading

ISTE Standards

The following are standards are published by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and are the foundation for use of technology in teaching and learning. Visit iste.org for more information.

Computational Thinker
Students break problems into component parts, extract key information, and develop descriptive models to understand complex systems or facilitate problem-solving. Students understand how automation works and use algorithmic thinking to develop a sequence of steps to create and test automated solutions.

Innovative Designer
Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks.

Creative Communicator
Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations. Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.

6th-8th Grade Standard Summaries:

Grades are calculated through Content and Process Standards. Content Standards are generated from learning standards for each academic subject (including United Arts). Teachers report on these standards using proficiency levels, which range from 'Beginning' to 'Exceeding', as seen on the chart below. Corresponding numerical codes and descriptors accompany each proficiency level. The timeframe for when students achieve mastery is individualized and can take place at anytime during the school year. Students will receive a 1, 1+, 2, 2+, 3, 3+, or 4 for each content reporting standard. If a student is between proficiency levels on the report card a '+' will be added to the code. This communicates that the student is making progress toward --but has not fully demonstrated-- proficiency at the next level. Powerschool will continue to calculate standards summary scores using the last 5 assignments, weighting the most recent three scores twice as much as the least recent two.

Content Standards:

4.0 = Exceeds

3.0 = Proficient

2.0 = Approaching

1.0 = Beginning

Process Standards describe learning behaviors that are important across all Creative Technology classes. Teachers report on these standards using frequency levels, which range from 'Seldom' to 'Consistently', as seen in the chart below:
