Class Overview

Welcome to 5th Grade Math! I'm so excited you're here. A lot of students already think they aren't good at math by the time they get to me. Part of my philosophy of education is to remedy that as much as possible. Math is like a language, and once you have a good base understanding, the rest can fall into place!

By the end of the first semester, students will be able to:

Have a greater understanding of place value
Add and subtract decimals
Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers
Use models and strategies to divide whole numbers
Use equivalent fractions to add and subtract fractions

By the end of the second semester, students will be able to:

Understand volume concepts
Understand the basics of introductory geometry
Convert select customary and metric units
Understand the basics of introductory statistics
Understand the basics of introductory algebra

All About Me - Mrs. Couch!

Hi there! I'm Mrs. Couch! I'm so happy to have you visiting my site!

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Elementary Education with Honors. I am recently married and love traveling with my husband.

I can’t wait to share my love of education with my students! I am a fourth-generation teacher, and wanted to be a teacher because of the many amazing teachers I had growing up as well as the not-so-great ones.

Growing up I was scared of math until I realized the secrets, tips, and tricks of math, and I can't wait to share these with my students. This year, I am excited to dive deep into mathematics with your child. 5th Grade Math really sets the foundation for math courses from here on out, and this will be an important year.
