Welcome Friends & Families!

My name is Mrs. Katie Brown and I am the School Counselor at Wateree Elementary School. I am very excited to work with you and your children this school year!

I graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2022, with my Ed.S in Counselor Education (K-12 School Counseling Emphasis). Throughout this program, I also gained advanced training in working with students with Emotional & Behavioral Disorders (EBD), and students receiving special education services. Prior to this, I graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego, with my Bachelor's in Psychology, with a minor in Athletic Coaching! As a former upstate New Yorker, I really enjoy the sunny palmetto state, and am still an avid downhill skier, snowboarder, and snowmobiler!

I currently reside in Columbia, SC with my husband.  In my free time, some of the things I enjoy are spending time with my family and friends, going out on the boat, waterskiing, listening to podcasts, and reading. 

At the core of who I am, I believe that establishing strong foundations with our youth are vital to students ability to be successful in school and in life, and have a passion for cultivating a school climate of openness, collaboration, and community to help ensure students feel heard, loved, and belong. I am an ASCA (American School Counseling Association) and PSSCA (Palmetto State School Counseling Association) active member, and regularly stay up-to-date on current best practices and emerging research by attending conferences regularly and collaborating with other mental health professionals. With that, I hope you also will stay in touch and reach out if you have any questions or concerns, or know of any information that would help us to best serve your child here at school.
