August 25th- 29th
Math: This week in math, students learned about factors, multiples, and prime and composite numbers. Using a variety of tasks around the room, and while working with small groups, students had the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of these concepts. On Thursday, September 4th students will be taking their first summative assessment on these concepts.
Reading: Students have been reading a variety of personal narratives, which cover a wide variety of topics. Our primary focus has been on character traits, and citing evidence from the text when describing different characters. They have done a fantastic job with these activities, and I can't wait to see how well they do this upcoming week, too!
Writing: Students spent time brainstorming some of their favorite foods that have a special connection to a holiday or family event, and used sensory details to describe their personal experiences. The students shared different things that were special or unique to them, and their conversations were so thoughtful! We will continue with these personal narratives into the next week.
Science/Social Studies: Our class worked on establishing Hopes and Dreams for the upcoming year. We reviewed different aspects of the school year, and areas where they could set goals for themselves. In addition to goals within our classroom, students noted ideas they had for themselves in sports and other activities they compete in outside of the school day. This led to a nice discussion about who they are as individuals and how their own hard work and goal setting can pay off.
Other Notes: We celebrated Kelsey's birthday on Friday! Happy Birthday, Kelsey! (08/30)
