As your School Counselor, I will, at times, pull students to meet in a group atmosphere. *The American School Counselors Association (ASCA) states that group counseling is an efficient, effective and positive way of providing direct service to students with academic, career and social/emotional developmental issues and situational concerns. Group counseling can help reduce social isolation and negative emotions, as well as increase positive peer relations and a sense of belonging. The group creates a climate of trust, caring, understanding and support that enables students to share their concerns with peers and the school counselor.
Your students' well-being is my top priority. To the left, you will see sample group rules that may be found in one of our small group counseling sessions. Rules may be adjusted based on the needs of the students in the session.
If you feel your student would benefit from group counseling, please do not hesitate to reach out. Group counseling is short term and lasts for approximately 6-8 sessions.
