Hello! My name is Jamie Wood and I am going into my tenth year of teaching. I have been a third-grade teacher in the Chelmsford district and I've taught in Special Education in Lowell. This will be my seventh year at Claypit Hill School and my FIRST year as a fifth grade teacher! Raised in the New York City area, I have been living in Massachusetts for over 20 years. I earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a M.Ed from UMass Lowell. I am passionate about creating an inclusive classroom community where students are agents in their learning.
Some of my hobbies include illustration, graphic design, and exploring the outdoors with my family. I have two children: Levi, a tenth grader and Chloe, a senior in high school. We love to travel over the summer months and have recently visited Japan, the UK, Costa Rica, France, and Portugal! Five years ago, we built a vegetable garden that has become my little oasis at home.
More than anything, I read, read, read. I have stacks of books in every room in my house and I take one (or two) books with me wherever I go. You could say I'm addicted to reading! I love staying current with what kids are reading these days, so my book stack is a mix of literary fiction, non-fiction, young adult books, graphic novels, and picture books. I love discussing and sharing books with children and adults alike!
