Communication and Correspondence: 

The best way to contact me is by email. My email address is: azunigavelasquez@dcsdk12.org

I will check and strive to respond to my email at the end of each day. (Please know that a 24 hour response period my occur if I need to communicate with additional staff regarding the subject matter.)   

If you have important information to communicate to me regarding a change to your student's dismissal or after school plans please send this information with your student to school and have them give me the message/note when they arrive at school. You may also contact me through the TalkingPoints App for Families. I will be utilizing this app for quick announcements, reminders, or messages. 

If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please contact the front office. 

I am always open to meeting with you in person. Please contact me and we can schedule a meeting time. We will have two formal scheduled conferences throughout the year, but I am always open to conferences as needed. 

Good Habits:

• Read a minimum of 20 minutes everyday! Try a family read aloud!

• Practice your addition and subtraction facts for fluency and automaticity!

• Try Typing.com!

Student Behavior Expectations:

My classroom management is based on positive reinforcement. I have clear, consistent, and high expectations. During the first week of school, students will participate in establishing our classroom respect agreement (tjis will be a living document that can be revised throughout the year), so that they can develop ownership of the rules. 

Students are expected to:

4. Be Respectful to Everyone

5.  Be Kind and Helpful

6. Work Hard as a Team

7. Do your Best

For second-grade students, clear rules and expectations are essential to create a safe and predictable environment. At this age students are developing independence and social skills. Explicit expectations minimize disruptions, establish a respectful community, and reduce anxiety by showing students exactly what is expected of them. It is key that they learn the importance of accepting the responsibility for their actions and the natural consequences that may follow. If your child is consistently struggling with following the classroom expectations, I will contact you through a phone call or email so we can discuss the behaviors specifically.

Birthdays: 

We would love to help your child celebrate their birthday!

Birthday treats are welcome if your family would like to send them in. All treats must be nut free and prepackaged from the store.

Birthday Invitations:

If invitations are being passed out at school, please be sure to have enough invitations for each child in the class. If invitations are only for a few friends, please pass them out outside of school hours. Thanks for your understanding!
