Homework

Students have been given agenda books to record homework assignments, as they come up.

We will not begin routine homework assignments until we are further along in the year. There may be small tasks here and there, but those routines will begin later.

When we do begin our homework routine, it will look like this:

AND

Below is an explanation of how families can go about meeting these expectations.

Reading

WHEN HOMEWORK BEGINS, fourth grade students are expected to read at least 20 minutes in a "Just Right" book and record their minutes read FOUR NIGHTS PER WEEK. As the year progresses, there may be other expectations linked to their reading (such as short written components), but the most important thing to keep in mind is that we want to foster healthy reading habits at home.

WHEN HOMEWORK BEGINS, families are expected to initial in the Agenda Book once per week, so that we can be sure we are all working toward success!

Math

Each weeknight, fourth grade students are expected to practice their basic math facts. This can be done with flash cards, math games, practice on math apps or programs, recitation, call and response with a partner, songs, artwork, etc. Let's be creative and make this task fun for our kids!  Please check agenda books for occasional information on which facts need the most attention for your child.

Here are some of the websites with which children are familiar for practicing basic skills:

Please Note: CoolMathGames.com is not a quality source for math practice. The games are often very loosely related to math and do not tend to promote much math learning.

Other

Occasionally, other homework assignments will be expected to be completed.
Please check agenda books for these.

REGULAR HOMEWORK WILL NOT BEGIN RIGHT AWAY.

I WILL BE SURE TO INFORM FAMILIES
OF WHEN STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO
FULFILL WEEKLY HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS.
