Rooted Education
As a homeschool mom of five and an educator with over 20 years of experience, I love walking alongside children as they discover the beauty of the world around them—especially through science. With a background as a biology major and a Master’s degree in Educational Formation, I bring both a strong academic foundation and a deep appreciation for how children learn best: through curiosity, creativity, and meaningful experiences. My project-based approach invites students to explore, ask questions, and connect what they’re learning to real life in ways that spark wonder and joy.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring and leading students, guiding multi-week wilderness adventures, and leading marine biology camps for elementary learners—experiences that have deeply shaped my belief that some of the best learning happens outside, through doing, seeing, and experiencing. I also value a literature-rich approach as a meaningful way to deepen understanding and foster connection. At the heart of all I do is a desire to nurture the whole child, with a strong emphasis on character, relationships, and a genuine love of learning. It is a joy to create a space where children feel known, inspired, and excited to grow.
This project-based science class is geared towards 3rd–6th grade students and is designed to spark curiosity and foster a love of learning through hands-on exploration and meaningful discovery. Throughout the year, students will engage with a wide range of foundational science topics, including life science (plants, animals, ecosystems, and the human body), earth and space science (weather, geology, and oceanography, and the solar system), and physical science (matter, energy, forces, and motion). Elements of STEM will be woven throughout as students build, design, experiment, and solve problems together. We will use the notebooking method during class, helping students document observations, process what they are learning, and take ownership of their work. Relevant historical context and stories of scientists will be woven in to enrich understanding and bring the study of science to life, encouraging students to ask questions, think critically, and experience science in a way that is both engaging and memorable.
Cost: $600/year ($300/semester), $50 material fee/semester
