About Me:
My name is Missy Orner. I grew up in a small town called Kersey, PA along with my 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I now live in Emporium, PA with my husband Jamie, our son Owen, and our dog Odie. My family enjoys spending time outdoors together. We like to hunt, fish, go kayaking, ride bicycles, and go for walks. In my spare time, when I'm not cleaning (I'm a bit of a neat freak), you will find me crafting or building/making things.
My Education:
I graduated from the St. Mary's Area High School in 2005. I then attended college at Clarion University and graduated in 2010. Upon graduation, I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education along with my certification in Middle School Mathematics. Later, I returned to college to attain my Master's Degree in Education and this time achieved my certification in Special Education PreK-12. I graduated from Edinboro University in 2020.
My Teaching Career:
After graduating from Clarion University I was provided an opportunity to work for Dickinson Center Inc. (DCI). I started with DCI in 2011 and had worked for there until 2021. With DCI I held several different positions and provided behavioral health services to children and adolescence.
When I first started with DCI I worked in the Cameron County School District, as their Mental Health Liaison and LIFE caseworker. I provided support services to students in both the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High School. During that time I also facilitated/taught the Signs of Suicide (SOS), Incredible Years Curriculum (IY), Character Education lessons, and the Kindergarten Readiness Program to students in the Cameron County School District.
In 2017, DCI pursued me to be the Special Education Teacher for their Crossroads Partial Hospitalization Program . At Crossroads I taught full inclusion core classes to at-risk students ages 11-18. Along with providing instruction, my duties included implementing positive behavior support plans, utilizing de-escalation techniques, executing classroom management, and consulting with parents and guardians. Overall, the most important piece of my job was to help my students achieve motivation and self-worth by offering support, showing them care and compassion, helping them recognize their strengths/talents, and not giving up on them. I was the Special Education Teacher at Crossroads for 4 years and really enjoyed helping students with behavioral health needs. However, my passion has always been math, and my goal has always been to be a Math teacher!
This will be my fifth year teaching at the Port Allegany School District! I am very excited to be a Gator and look forward to having a great 2025-2026 school year!
