Here you will find additional resources to use in your reading instruction. Theses will be based on a variety of different grade levels that can be tweaked to fit your students needs! I will also provide some knowledge I have gained through my reading endorsement courses, Striving Readers Top Ten Tools, & other ideas found from reliable sources. Use these as tools to help guide your reading instruction to help those students who are learning from home.

This is a great site for remote learning! As the teacher, you are able to assign various reading passages for all students in your class of different reading levels. Reading passages of all subjects K-12th. It's free, too! Students are able to interact with the text & as the teacher, you are able to see their responses to comprehension questions. Check it out!

TWEEN TRIBUNE

Like Read Works, this is another great website for remote learning. You are able to create a free account & add students to your board. From there, you can assign reading passages based on lexile levels, assign quizzes & engage students in daily writing prompts where they look at a picture & write about what they see! You are able to see all their answers/replies. There are a variety of learning opportunities with this site!

Flip grid

Some of you may be new to flip grid, like myself! I found this Youtube video on how to get started & I think it explains it in a way that's easy to understand. Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video communication among the the class. Check it out as this may be something you're interested in doing to continue teaching from home!

freckle

Freckle is another website that is great for remote learning. I know our 4th graders use it & love it! This site allows the teacher to differentiate instruction for students all across the board. Students work at their own level. How cool! Freckle provides easy-to-use report cards so you know exactly how students are doing on specific skills & tasks.

tool #1-Knowledge

Our most important tool! Know what to teach, how to teach it & plan it.

tool #2-Oral language

Including rich oral language in the students' daily routine will help improve their written language as well as their reading ability, too!

tool #3-phonemes

Phonemes are so important in creating meaning & while reading! We often relate phonemes with decoding but often forget that they combine to make meaning.

tool #4-Phonics & spelling

Teaching phonics helps students not only read more accurately but also helps with comprehension as they read.

tool #5-vocabulary

With our buildings demographics, this tool is very much well-used in the classrooms! Like Dr.Deb says, it's the "blueprint" of a word. Vocabulary is fundamental for communication and acquiring knowledge.

This skills helps to increase the pleasure of reading while also increasing the effectiveness of reading. Strong comprehension skills help in all other subject areas, too!

One of the most important reading components! This is the automatic application of skills that it takes to read, decode, and comprehend what we read.

This looks different depending on the grade level. Providing students' with the opportunity to write in response to reading not only strengthens their written skills, but also helps them with their reading, too. It is very beneficial for students to connect their writing to their reading. It helps them to connect to what they are reading!

A LOT of positive language development happens from just reading a story to your students! Engage them in meaningful conversation as you read & expose them to rich vocabulary.
