From Our Nurse
Dear Ventana Ranch Staff and Families,
Cold and flu season is here. According to APS policy, If your student has any of the following symptoms, they should be kept home.
Active vomiting
Active diarrhea - three or more times in six hours
The beginning of an airway infection (cold/cough/runny nose). This is especially important for those who are unable to manage their own body fluids.
Extreme tiredness and/or lack of appetite
Fever with headache, body aches, earache, sore throat
Undiagnosed or unknown rash (a rash that has not been seen or treated by a health care provider)
Fever or chills
Untreated skin conditions
If antibiotic treatment is needed, your child should remain home for the first full 24 hours of medication (e.g., if your child has three doses per day ordered, then three doses must be given before the child returns to school)
If you have questions this resource may help: When is Sick Too Sick for School?
If any symptoms change, worsen or don't get better please call your healthcare provider.
When can your child come back to school??
Your child can return to school when he or she is well enough to take part in school and has had no fever for 24 hours without medication (acetaminophen, Tylenol®, etc.).
Your child may return to school when Covid-19 safety measures have been implemented, following recommended guidelines for quarantine/isolation periods, your child has been fever free for 24 hours without medication, and your child's symptoms have improved.
When you have questions, please call your school nurse, school nurse practitioner, or health care provider for more information.
COVID 19 Quarantine is currently 5 days from the start of symptoms & students should wear a mask for 5 days when they return.
It takes all of us to keep our community safe and healthy. We continue to encourage frequent hand washing, covering of coughs/sneezes, and vaccinating against common viral illness (Flu and Covid-19). For vaccine registration, go to: https://goodtimes.vaccinenm.org/stay-ahead-nm/
