Equipping and Empowering Life-Long Learners
Equipping and Empowering Life-Long Learners
I believe that every human being is created for a purpose. As a leader and educator, it is my mission to come alongside others to equip and empower them to become lifelong learners who bloom, grow, flourish and thrive so that they may experience the freedom of living in their truth and uniqueness.
When I work with others, they are in a “non-threating” environment in which they set personal goals and determine the rate of progress. In order to help others in their endeavors, I strive to understand them on a personal level. Honesty, observational feedback, and non-judgemental attitudes towards my learners are paramount to establishing a trusting relationship that allows us to become learning partners. It is important for students to have agency over their own learning and experiences, so I strive to interact as a mentor, facilitator, and “guide on the side,” as opposed to the person who has all of the answers for every challenge, problem, or situation.
Throughout each individual's process, I believe it is important to set benchmarks and to regularly assess how the learner is progressing so that we are able to come to consensus about next steps. Failure is embraced as part of the journey, such that learners are able to “fail forward” after examining what caused failure and what the next step in their process should be based on how the failure occurred. If necessary, I reteach or introduce new tools to help the student. For example, if we determine that the student experienced failure due to poor planning, I will teach a mini-lesson about strategic planning and time management. Finally, all assessments are delivered in such a way that they are constructive and affirming.
I believe that everyone should have an opportunity to fully participate as a member of a team and that each team member should be valued for their contributions. I want each stakeholder to feel valued, respected, and appreciated and to understand how they are important to the overall success of the organization. Lastly, my hope is that each individual will be sent into the world to fully participate and lead others in order to pay forward what they have been blessed with.
