The majority of class learning in Mr. Biggs class is achieved through project based learning. The following are some examples from a variety of grade levels.
8th Grade: Stock Market Challenge
Students create a live updating stock market investment portfolio using Google Sheets. They are given $100,000 for an initial investment and track (and chart) the total value over a semester. Through this project student can master several of the formulas for Google Sheets as well as learn the economics of publicly owned corporations and the working of the stock market.
7th Grade: Family Crest
Students research family crests and heraldry to create their own version of a crest. After completing the crest the student makes a Google Slide presentation to show what all the symbols mean with one twist, they are only allowed on slide, forcing students to master animations and pacing of their presentation.
5th Grade: Create a Country Project.
Students created a fictional country with a country map, location in the world, an encyclopedia entry and a presentation for the class. This project is the culmination of years of working on Google Apps and has the students using Drawing, Docs, Slides and Maps. Furthermore the project integrates the 5th grade social studies curriculum by having students create the country's government, economy and social structure as well as teaching them presentation skills.
2nd Grade: Making a Gif
A simpler project that combines the use of Google Drawing and a GIF Maker app. Students learned key elements of animation as well as how to create using Google Drawing.
