One of the goals of humanity since ancient times has been to understand the origin and inner working of the universe. Its a complicated question. However, in the past 2000 years, we have understood various aspects of our universe in quite details. Our current understanding is based on two major pillars, namely general relativity and quantum mechanics. The general relativity tells us about the structure of spacetimes and the quantum mechanics tells us how does everything living in spacetime behaves. However, some of the deepest questions such as how did universe began and which laws govern our universe at shortest and largest length scales are still unanswered. String theory is a framework whose goal is to find the answers to these questions. It starts by analysing the motion of one dimensional objects in space time. Demading that this simple system is consistent with quantum mechanics leads to some very surprising conclusions. Among various things, it shows that the dimension of spacetime should be 10 and the various quantum states of strings describe different particles. This framework has a natural way to treat all the 4 forces we see in our universe in a unified manner. Another surprising feature emerging from string theory is that the gravitional force is dual to other non gravitational forces in a holographic sense. This goes by the name of holographic principle, gauge gravity duality or AdS/CFT correspondence.
My research work is in various aspects of string theory and holography. In particular, currently, I am interested in string perturbation theory, string field theory, holography, higher spin field and conformal field theory.
