Using this tool allows for a classroom assessment system that is similar to the real world. It is not about tests. Instead, students will select their best work that showcases their understanding of what they have learned as well as personal reflecting on that learning.
Portfolios will include three parts for each unit. First, students will write a summary/ rational of the unit. Next, students will include two artifacts or evidence of their learning. Finally, students will reflect on their learning throughout the unit.
Summary/ rational of unit: Students will write a paragraph that explains the unit and why it was taught.
Documentation of evidence (artifacts): Students include the summative assessment from each unit as along with one other artifact that they feel best demonstrates understanding of the material learned within the unit.
Personal reflection: Students are given the goals and standards for each unit and they have created their own Essential Questions to answer. s. of the unit and the work that students include will help each student begin to document their growth over time and
