Below is my teaching journey, if you'd like to know how I ended up where I am to educate your children at Patterson Elementary...
At the beginning of my teaching career, I started by coordinating and running an afterschool program for Hayfork Elementary School in Hayfork, CA. In my first year of teaching, I designed and organized an awesome afterschool program with academic enrichment opportunities in Science, computers and technology, history, and other extra curricular activities like music, drama, and team building while providing academic intervention in ELA and Mathematics for students in grades K-8 on a daily basis.
From there, I went on to teach high school English and English Language Development (ELD) for 3 years at Clovis East High School in Clovis Unified School District. While there, I was department chair and head for the English Language Development Department for the high school. I also was the Asian Club advisor for 3 years and helped the club become the biggest student led organization on campus with over 150 student members. Many of our community service projects have been absorbed into other clubs since I left the school, but they are still going strong with my former colleagues. Kid's Day in particular has been taken over by Peer Counseling and by my good friend and colleague, Derrick Davis, which is continuing to lead the project. This year alone, they have raised over $17,000 dollars to donate to the local Children's Hospital. I'm glad I was able to help get this community service project started at Clovis East. I also helped start and coordinate the first Asian Student Education Conference for our district there which is also in their 5th year.
From there, I went on to teach 7th Grade ELA/SS Core and 6th-8th Grade ELD at August Boeger Middle School in Mount Pleasant Elementary School District. I was able to experience teaching 7th Grade ELA/SS Core and designing curriculum to help supplement my students' needs. Being my first year teaching in middle school, I'm glad I was able to experience it. Lots of memories that I will remember. A few struggles here and there, but I decided to give middle school another chance.
From there, I continued my journey in Middle School teaching 6th Grade English at Raymond J. Fisher Middle School. I was surprised how supportive the school community was when i started here. The students were awesome and I loved interacting with my parents every chance I got. I was able to really dive into middle school curriculum and create projects that I still use. After this year, I figured middle school probably isn't the age for me to teach, so my journey will continue in elementary.
And so, now I am in 4th grade at Patterson Elementary. I have been here for 3 years and am loving my school, staff, and community. My teaching journey has been a crazy ride, but i feel I am where I need to be in education. Lots of opportunities and excitement every year. I am looking forward to changing the lives in my students everyday.
