Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time + Royal Rivalry (known in Japan as "Mario & Luigi RPG 2x2 DX") would be a 2018 role playing game developed by AlphaDream and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS, it would be a remake of the Nintendo DS entry Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (2005) which also adds a brand new game mode titled "Royal Rivalry"
Just like Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, the visuals would be completely redone, featuring the same visual style as Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Paper Jam, now with dynamic lighting
This remake would feature a completely redone soundtrack also composed by Yoko Shimomura, and the sound effects were either redone or replaced with equivelants from the newer titles
The remake would feature a plethora of quality-of-life improvements from the newer games like the ability to save everywhere on the map, and letting players restart battles, and the bros attacks were tweaked to have definitive endings and an "Excellent" rating, and the timings of the regular attacks were changed to match the modern games as well, some bros attacks have finishers as well when the "Great" rating is reached, which have more impactful visual effects
The baby+adult system would stay intact, including how the double jump and the double hammer works, but the timings in-battle, again, are easier, and game overall is paced a little slower, in the overworld, pressing both L and R buttons would let the player move the top screen map using the circle pad/d-pad, and when Baby Mario and Baby Luigi's views are taking the top screen the player can swap between Mario and Luigi's view or a mini-map on the bottom screen, and the opposite works too
The game would now have a guide housing tutorials and letting the player practice regular moves and bros attacks or view demos of them, the game now also has an easy mode just like Superstar Saga DX that increases the character stats while decreasing the enemy stats, along with an "assistance" toggle that shows an enemy's targeted brother and the ability to do an emergancy guard by pressing one of the shulder buttons
Bosses would now enter a "fury" status effect when enough damage is dealt to them, which is essentially a second phase, with stronger and new attacks
