Molecular Clouds

Amidst the darkness of space lurk the cold, dark molecular clouds. The temperatures of these clouds range from 10-100 K. Here is a poem on molecular clouds.

The OH radical shows emission at 18 cm wavelength.

An emission line at 1667 MHz is the strongest of all OH emission lines as shown in the adjacent figure.

My research work at the Macquarie University deals with spectroscopic analysis of data from the Parkes telescope to measure the amount of molecular hydrogen present in high-latitude galactic molecular clouds.

I aim to find the correct calibration method and calibrate the data from the entire molecular cloud in Jansky or Kelvin units. Thereafter calculating column densitites.

Here are some further details of the project.

These clouds are visible in the radio window through their faint emission lines.
