LATE WORK POLICY: I believe students completing the work and gaining access to the History content and curriculum is vital to student success therefore I have a very flexible late work policy that is consistent with my outlook that getting the work done is more important than deadlines. I consider traditional Due Dates to be more Target Dates.
SEMESTER LONG GRADING: Grades will be Semester long grades - this means that a student's grade will begin the first day of the semester and run through the end of the semester. It will not reset at the beginning of the 2nd or 4th quarters. Students will get a Quarter report card at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters but these will serve as essentially formal progress reports.
LATE WORK DEADLINES: Towards the end of both Semesters there will be a deadline day for all late work from the Semester to be submitted, it usually is about two weeks before the end of each semester.
HOMEWORK: For the most part in both my US and World History classes the assigned work will be done in class. Generally the only time students should have to do regular assignments at home is when they are absent and need to catch up OR if its a longer project type of assignment which part may need to be completed at hom.
QUIZZES AND EXAMS: There will be regular Slides "quizzes" this is where students will access the notes/slides and answer questions on a short quiz - there are usually 2-3 per week - students traditionally will do very well on these. Exams are given at end of each Unit/Chapter and those are such that students are not able to access content and are assessed on what they have learned.
CLASSROOM LEARNING ENVIRONMENT: Because so much of the work is done in class, it is absolutely vital that students are provided a learning environment where they can read, comprehend and concentrate on the content provided. Therefore, a strict policy as it relates to discussion and disruption is critical to this type of in-class work philosophy.
