On the left you will find a copy of my classroom AUP. On the right you will find a sort of template so that you can make your own AUPs. If you are curious as to why I included such a template, you can scroll down a bit further to find my explanation.
Hello parents. I just wanted to ask you all to consider making your own Acceptable Use Policies (AUPs), or a written-out list of rules with consequences for breaking said rules, for your own homes. Yes, most parents do have house rules for their children to abide by, but not all of these parents have the rules written out with ideas of what the consequences will be for breaking the rules. There are two purposes for making a home AUP. The first purpose of doing so is to help the students become more familiar with the concept of an AUP, as their everyday experience with the concept will help them to learn about it. Another purpose of having a home AUP is because, to a degree, AUPs are like government laws. The rules have already been written out, not following the rules comes with predesigned consequences, and over time the rules will change to accommodate the changes that time brings. By making an AUP for your home, your children will gain some experience about how laws work.
Again, you are your child’s parent(s), and you are the one(s) in charge of your homes. It is completely up to you as parents whether or not you want to make and go through with a Home AUP. All I ask is that you consider the pros and cons of making the Home AUP as you can think of them. If you do decide to make a Home AUP, you will find that I have left a basic template design in a link below the link you used to access this very document.
