It is extremely important to stay engaged during remote learning. Assignments and classwork will be posted on Google Classroom and this website. All remote learning assignments are to be completed. These will count as daily assignments. Failure to complete assignments will result in a negative impact in gradebook. There will not be any excuse accepted for not knowing where to find the homework assignments, resources, and or video clips. Your homework assignments should only take you 40 minutes or less to complete. If you are taking longer, take a break, contact your homework buddies for help, and then contact your teacher. USE YOUR RESOURCES!
It is essential for taking attendance that you have your VIDEO ON AT ALL TIMES in google meet. Attendance is taken at the beginning of the class and at the end of class for accountability purposes. Leaving a google meet session early could have a negative impact in gradebook.
Join each Peardeck session and PARTICIPATE.
Complete ALL ACTIVITIES. USE YOUR RESOURCES!
Engage in group activities when asked.
IN GROUPS establish a time keeper in groups, establish a group manager (to make sure each peer is adding and participating), establish a "turn in" and or "complete" manager.
This past spring we set recommended durations for daily student engagement. This year we are expecting students and teachers to be engaged for the entire duration of a typical school day.We recognize that it is not developmentally appropriate to expect students to participate in six hours of direct screen time. The table below summarizes thresholds for student synchronous and asynchronous engagement. Asynchronous engagement could include small group instruction, student small groups, independent work, or additional meaningful supports and interventions.Teachers are to be available during the entirety of the instructional day.
MODE OF LEARNING- Digital: All learning will take place through the Google Education Suite
Student Engagement/ Attendance-Student attendance will be taken daily. (High School per Course)
Educator Engagement-Teachers will be available for the entirety of the school day. (7:45am to 3:00pm)
Real-time Instruction (Synchronous) and Learning Activities (Asynchronous)-Students will receive live, real-time instruction each day. The remainder of their school day will consist of learning activities including check-ins with teachers or small group instruction, independent learning activities including self-directed projects, assignments, and physical activity.
Grades 9-12: Real-time instruction will make up 80 percent of the school day with the remaining 20 percent saved for learning activities. (Approximately) 40 minutes synchronous instruction and 10 minutes asynchronous activities each class.)
Grades- Return to regular grading practices, as the district will ensure all students have the tools they need to succeed.
Earlier this summer, we launched Chicago Connected, a groundbreaking program that will provide free high-speed internet to approximately 100,000 CPS students and their families at no cost. Eligible families were notified via USPS mail, emails, text messages, and robocalls and we encourage all eligible families to take advantage of this program. Families can check their eligibility and get an activation code if they’re eligible at cps.edu/chicagoconnected.
Please note that students who received a CPS device last spring should use that device for the 2020–21 school year. Students should only return devices if they are transferring or graduating to a new school, graduating from high school, or leaving the district.
