At the most basic level, we will focus on developing our problem solving skills and our Algebra literacy.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization define literacy as the "ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, compute and use digital, printed, and written materials associated with varying contexts.
While this seems simple on the surface, it should be established that mathematics literacy is something that must be developed and practiced. We will all come to mathematics from different places and will grow more each day as a team and individually.
Because mathematics is a fundamental academic skill, our problem solving ability determines many of the opportunities and global choices we will earn in our lifetime. The better that you can problem solve, the better you can interact with the world around you. Mathematical skills will benefit you in many ways because they are the one of the foundations for our educational goals from today until the day we graduate college and function in adulthood.
In order to maximize our development as mathematicians, our Algebra I course will focus on six skill sets throughout the school year: Equations of functions, Inequalities, Equations of Lines, Operations with Polynomials, Statistics and Probabilities and Quadratics.

Homework is an extremely important method of practicing material learned in class and it is essential for your success in class. Homework will be assigned almost every night. You should attempt to complete as much as you are able, (the goal is the entire assignment), come back with questions and honesty why you could not complete it. At times, you will be asked to write HOW you established your answer using sentence stems so that I understand your thinking. Your homework assignments should only take you 40 minutes or less to complete. If you are taking longer, take a break, contact your homework buddies for help, and then contact your teacher. USE RESOURCES!
In order to get credit for the homework, you must show your attempts at solving the problem. (SHOW THE WORK) No credit is given when only the answers are provided. This is for remote learning as well as in person learning.
It is extremely important to stay engaged during remote learning. Assignments and classwork will be posted on Google Classroom and this website. All remote learning assignments are to be completed. These will count as daily assignments. Failure to complete assignments will result in a negative impact in gradebook. There will not be any excuse accepted for not knowing where to find the homework assignments, resources, and or video clips. Your homework assignments should only take you 40 minutes or less to complete. If you are taking longer, take a break, contact your homework buddies for help, and then contact your teacher.
